Jaipur - day 1

Our BnB in Jaipur is a large family home with a lot of extra rooms (it can accommodate 16 guests at a time).  Even though it's the down season, there were 6 or 7 other girls from the U.S. staying with us here while they were taking some overseas courses through a program at their university.  It was nice to get to chat with other travelers for a change.  I had some good talks with our host as well - he has been to the U.S. a number of times on business trips, but hasn't been to Canada.  He is under the impression that the U.S. is very unsafe because everyone there carries guns.  He was arguing with me that Canada is likely less safe than India also because there are less people around.  An interesting point, but I'd have to disagree.

We went to a bazaar today.  The shopping here is not nearly as enjoyable as it was in Thailand.  I like a lot of things that they are selling in the markets, but I never want to risk showing any interest in anything because once the shop keepers think they know what you're looking for, they really don't give up on trying to sell you that thing.  I feel like I spend half of my days here speed-walking while shaking my head and saying "no thank-you" again and again.  "Bangles?  You give me 100 rupees"... "You want postcards?  50 rupees"... "Please come in madame - let me show you saris...Good quality madame "... etc. etc. etc.
